WMO publishes Guidelines on Emerging Data Issues

WMO has recently published Guidelines on Emerging Data Issues (WMO-No. 1239). These Guidelines are the result of a request made at the seventeenth World Meteorological Congress (Cg-17) to provide clarity and guidance for Members in navigating the rapidly changing world of data and data technologies, and especially to provide some insight regarding trends and emerging challenges in data and their use.

Ms Gaborekwe Khambule receives national award

Ms Gaborekwe Khambule of the South African Weather Service and co-lead of the WMO Commission for Aeronautical Meteorology (CAeM) Expert Team on Education, Training and Competency (ET-ETC) has recently received an Aviation Professional Award from the South African Civil Aviation Authority for her contribution to aviation in the Republic of South Africa, in the African region and beyond.

WMO publishes Compendium of Competency Frameworks

WMO has today published a Compendium of Competency Frameworks. The purpose of the Compendium is to provide WMO Members and their service providers with easy access to all the WMO competency frameworks that have been implemented since the first frameworks for aeronautical meteorological personnel were put in place in 2013 . The Compendium is available via the WMO e-Library here.

Space weather information service for international civil aviation becomes operational

Earlier today a space weather information service for international civil aviation became operational. The launch of the operational service is the culmination of many years of work by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), World Meteorological Organization (WMO), their Members, service providers, partner international organisations and other agencies. 

IWXXM 3.0.0 released for operational use

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has, today, released version 3.0.0 of the ICAO Meteorological Information Exchange Model (IWXXM) for operational use. IWXXM 3.0.0 enables the delivery of meteorological services for international civil aviation in accordance with Amendment 79 to ICAO Annex 3/WMO-No. 49, Volume II.

WMO Guide to Competency now available in all official languages

Following-on from the 2018 publication in English and French of WMO-No. 1205, Guide to Cometency, WMO has now published the other official languages - specifically Arabic, Chinese, Russian and Spanish.
