WMO publishes Guidelines on Emerging Data Issues

6 January, 2020

WMO has recently published Guidelines on Emerging Data Issues (WMO-No. 1239). These Guidelines are the result of a request made at the seventeenth World Meteorological Congress (Cg-17) to provide clarity and guidance for Members in navigating the rapidly changing world of data and data technologies, and especially to provide some insight regarding trends and emerging challenges in data and their use.

While these Guidelines necessarily refer to technical aspects of data, the focus is on the impact (positive and negative) of emerging data issues on WMO systems, on the systems and services provided by WMO Members, and how Members might respond collectively, collegiately and individually, at global, regional and/or national levels. These Guidelines are based directly on the report of a review led by the Commission for Basic Systems (CBS).

WMO-No. 1239 is available on the e-Library here.
