WMO Activities at the
Third Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Redution

Geneva Switzerland, 8 - 13 May 2011

Disaster Risk reduction is at the core of the mission of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) and the National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) of its 189 Members. WMO contributed significantly to the planning of the Third Global Platform on Disaster Risk Reduction taking place 8-13 May in Geneva.

Under the theme "Invest Today for a Safer Tomorrow: Increase investments in local action", the forum will gather more than 2500 High-level officials and experts from governments, NGOs, international organisations, civil society and the private sector. It is organised by the UN International Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction (UN-ISDR).

Throughout the Global Platform, senior WMO experts will take part in plenaries, round tables and events.

WMO Secretary General, Mr. Michel Jarraud, will deliver a keynote speech during the Plenary on Climate Change Adapatation and Disaster Risk Reduction.
