Bruce Stewart has a Bachelor of Science (Mathematics), a Certificate in Engineering

Hydrology and a Master of Science (Environmental Studies). Bruce worked as a hydrologist for the Queensland Water Resources Commission from 1974 to 1985 and then as a Senior Engineer (Water Resources) for the Power and Water Authority in the Northern Territory from 1985 to 1987.

Bruce joined the Bureau of Meteorology in 1987 and has held a variety of positions in the Bruce including: Program Manager of the Water Resources Assessment Program, Superintendent Hydrology, Assistant Director (Climate, Consultative and Hydrological Services) and Assistant Director (National Operations).

In October 2004, Bruce was elected as president of the World Meteorological Organization’s (WMO) Commission for Hydrology (CHy). For the past 12 years, he has been one of two Australian representatives on the UNESCO International Hydrology Programme (IHP) and chairs the Australian National IHP Network.

Bruce has recently assumed the role of Assistant Director (Water Data) in the Bureau’s new Water Division.
