Jeffrey K. Lazo is Director of the Collaborative Program on the Societal Impacts and Economic Benefits of Weather Information at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado. Dr. Lazo is an economist with extensive experience in nonmarket valuation of environmental and natural resource commodities. He is the chair of the Societal and Economic Research and Applications Working Group of the International THORPEX Project and a member of the World Meteorological Organization Task Force on Socio-Economic Applications of Meteorological and Hydrological Services (Recently re-named, 'WMO Forum: Social and Economic Applications and Benefits of Weather, Climate, and Water Services'). He is administrator for the newsgroup ResEcon, an informal Internet-based organization that includes about 750 economists in a forum for sharing information and discussion related to natural resource and environmental economics. Jeff taught in the Mineral Economics Department at Penn State University, worked for Stratus Consulting in Boulder, Colorado, and has been with NCAR since April 2004. Dr. Lazo received a BA in economics and philosophy from the University of Denver and his Masters and PhD in environmental and natural resource economics from the University of Colorado-Boulder.
