WCSP- Climate Applications and ServicesThe Climate Applications and Services component of the World Climate Services Programme (WCSP) fosters the effective application of climate knowledge and information for the benefit of society and the provision of climate services, including the prediction of significant climate variations both natural and as a result of human activity. The Climate Information and Prediction Services (CLIPS) project, established by Congress in 1995, strived to help enhance our climate knowledge and improve the operational prediction capabilities, and to develop the capacities of the NMHSs to deliver climate information to meet the needs of their users. CLIPS project was particularly instrumental in the development of the concept of Regional Climate Centres (RCCs) and Regional Climate Outlook Forums (RCOFs). These initiatives together with the CLIPS training workshops have helped build the foundation for climate services. Congress-17 closed CLIPS as a WMO project in 2015 and agreed on assimilating its activities into the Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS).
