Space-based GOS

The Global Observing System (GOS) provides observations of the state of the atmosphere and ocean surface for the preparation of weather analyses, forecasts, advisories and warnings, for climate monitoring and environmental activities. It is operated by National Meteorological Services, national or international satellite agencies. Developing the space-based part of the GOS is one of the 4 main components of WMO Space Programme. More general information about the GOS, including purpose, scope and evolution can be found here

This Section is comprised of the following pages

  • Global Planning - Satellite missions to meet challenges of future weather and climate observation.
  • Satellite Status - Shows the latest status of CGMS Earth Observing Satellites
  • GSICS - Space-based intercalibration initiative to improve quality of observations
  • Frequency Coordination - Management of frequencies for remote sensing application
