SUMMARY AND PURPOSE OF THE REPORT

This report is the findings from my project to gather and analyse information on the use of Forecaster Workstations in NMHS’s.

On behalf of WMO, I investigated the use of Forecaster Workstation Systems in WMO Member countries. This was done to try and gauge the level of use of systems in WMO Member countries and the cost of developing and using such systems. The information that was required to complete this study was obtained using a questionnaire.

The questionnaire was sent to all WMO Member countries. A total of 60 countries replied, 50 of these countries had a Forecaster Workstation System and 10 countries had no system. However, some countries had more than one system, therefore, the total number of questionnaires returned was 73.

Of the 10 countries with no system only three were seeking a system. The eight countries that did not have a system, and would not have in the foreseeable future, sited the following reasons for being unable to obtain a system:

The conclusion and recommendation can be found in page no. 5 of this report.
