Coinciding with GISC Tehran being operational from August 2014, RTC Tehran held a WIS Training Workshop for the principal associated Members of GISC Tehran and for neighboring countries. The course addressed the WIS core competencies needed by Members to benefit from WIS with a focus on utilization of the services provided by GISC Tehran.

Participants received formal lectures on the background to WIS and on the experience of GISC Tehran in implementing WIS
Lectures were provided on the background of WIS, its implementation and on the establishment of GISC Tehran
Explaining the ICT infrastructure management and monitoring
IRIMO ICT experts showed participants the concepts of operating and maintaining the infrastructure of a WIS centre
Demonstrating IRIMO data quality control processes for climate data
Data management experts showed their data and quality management processes.
Demonstrating the data collected and provided as a service for road weather conditions
Experts demonstrated the concepts of external interactions, including collecting and providing data from road weather networks.
Participants learnt to use WIS through GISC Tehran's interfaces, including registering with the GISC, finding and subscribing to products
Participants spent time working with the GISC Tehran interface. This included registering as a GISC user, searching for data and products, accessing them and managing subscriptions.
Developers of GISC Tehran were awarded achievement certificates for their excellent work in establishing the GISC.

IRIMO took the opportunity of the workshop to present achievement awards to their staff that developed and implemented the GISC solution.

The workshop proved also to be an opportunity for the introduction of the WIS competencies and learning guides to be considered at the up coming CBS Ext 2014, as well as an opportunity for neighboring countries to begin working together on implementation of WIS nationally and within the local region.


The Hong Kong Observatory of Hong Kong, China, announce an enhancement of WMO's World Weather Information Service with the addition of advanced registered user features. These are a result of implementing the new functionality of WMO Information System's Data Collection or Production Centre (DCPC). The new functionality can be accessed directly at the DCPC portal. Note that DCPC portal access requires a user account and password. More details are available online or contacting Mr S T Chan (stchan@hko.gov.hk) directly.
An invitation has been put on WMO E-Letter facility asking for WMO and IOC Members to attend an Ad hoc International Forum of Users of Satellite Data Telecommunication Systems (SATCOM Forum), Paris, France, 3-4 October 2013. The meeting is open to representatives of WMO and IOC with an interest in the use of satellite data collection system used for the timely collection of environment data from observing platforms. The deadline for reviewing the latest draft of aviation XML is 14 June 2013.

Aviation XML builds on the Observations and Measurements standard by including additional application schemas, notable METCE (that allows meteorological elements to be described) and IWXXM (that allows the business rules used by international civil aviation to be described).
