Observations and Remarks

Introduction

The last column in Volume A "Observations and Remarks" (which corresponds to data field No. 29 of the master Station Data file: "Pub9volA9yymmdd.flatfile") provides information on:

    1. additional observations made at the station: meteorological, geophysical, hydrological observations, etc., such as nephoscopic, radiation, seismological, phenological, river stage, aircraft reconnaissance observations, etc.;
    2. information on special types of stations such as airport, lightship, coastal station, mountain station, automatic station, etc.;
    3. references to special services available, such as "Hurricane forecast centre", etc.;
    4. additional information relating to data in other columns, which appear in this column as remarks. These other columns (or fields) are marked by a symbol such as an asterisk or a hash sign ("*" or "#") and the corresponding remark appears in the Observations and Remarks column (field), followed by the same symbol.

The table below shows the abbreviations and symbols used in this field.
