NOTIFICATION FROM  ECMWF - European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts

New ECMWF EPS Probability products on the GTS:

ECMWF is extending its range of GTS products by adding probability products produced by our Ensemble Prediction System (EPS). These new products are encoded in FM 92 - GRIB Edition 2 at 2.5 degree lat/lon resolution.  The forecasts run twice a day and the forecast basetime is 00 and 12 UTC.
The products will be inserted to the GTS via Offenbach and Exeter will have following GTS headers:
 

Event Probability total precipitation
Total precipitation probabilities of at least 10 and 20 mm are generated for 24 hour time intervals. The reference time step for these parameters is the end of the interval.

Wind gust probabilities of at least 15 and 25 m/s are generated for 24 hour time intervals. The reference time step for the GTS headers is the end of the interval.

Please note that the use of the ii in the TTAAii is not according to the WMO regulations as described in table D2 in Attachment II-5 of the WMO Manual on the GTS. The range of values available in table D2 is not sufficient to describe the different EPS products. The alternate use of ii for EPS products will be proposed to WMO at a later stage.
