Dear Reader,

This Newsletter was first introduced in 1982, at the request of the Commission for Basic Systems (CBS), with the objective of providing World Weather Watch Centres with urgent notifications and a summary of the latest operational information on the World Weather Watch and Marine Meteorological Services.  In December 2001 the CBS Management Group approved the electronic distribution of the Newsletter thus enabling operational centres to receive up-to-date information on a near real-time basis.

This Newsletter is published at the end of each month and is disseminated free of charge through our on-line service.  Check our home page for the most recent issue, alternatively, complete the subscription form (if you havn’t already done so) and we will contact you when it is made available.

We hope that this Newsletter has been of service to you.  Should you feel that we did not meet with your requirements please contact us.

Developing XML Metadata templates

As requested by CBS XIII (1), the Secretariat is pleased to inform you that Volume C1 - Catalogue of Meteorological Bulletins, is now available as an .XML file and .XSD file on our web page.   If you wish to  to import the data file, you should download both the .xml and the  .xsd file.   During this test phase, we look forward to receiving your  comments and/or suggestions.

(1)  CBX XIII held in St. Petersburg (23 Feb-3 Mar 2005) encouraged the Secretariat,  in 5.5.11, to simplify "the procedures for updating the contents of the OIS.  .... In addition, the usefulness of the OIS would be greatly increased by making the information available in a more universal form, such as XML, for direct use by automated centres."

Meteorological bulletin comparisons

The bulletin comparisons for January 2006 are now available on our web page.

These comparisons have been made using the following data sets: RTH routeing catalogues, Volume C1 and the Special MTN Monitoring results.
