Notification from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (effective immediately):

The United Kingdom notified the WMO Secretariat on 10 November 2003 that they were  unable to implement on 5 November 2003 the change to alphanumeric codes, detailed in Annex 4 Recommendation 4 of CBS Ext. (02) and endorsed by Executive Council, specifically the modifications to FM 12-XII SYNOP, FM 13-XII SHIP and FM 14-XII SYNOP MOBIL for reporting of precipitation and its global harmonization.  The United Kingdom plans to implement these changes by 3 November 2004.  In the meantime, they will continue reporting rainfall in line with the former regulations.
