INTERIOR FLOOD HYDROLOGY (HEC-IFH) |

1. Purpose and objectives The program performs the analyses needed to characterise interior-area (e.g. areas behind levees) flood hazards and to evaluate the performance of the potential flood reduction measures and plans. 2. Description The program can be used to analyse flood damage reduction measures for leveed interior areas. Projects such as levees and floodwalls can cause problems by isolating interior areas and blocking drainage to the main river. Hydrologic analyses are needed to characterise the interior area flood hazard and to evaluate the performance of the potential flood damage reduction measures and plans. The HEC-IFH program addresses this need. The program is particularly powerful for performing long, historical period simulations and makes extensive use of a menu-driven user interface,
statistical and graphical data representations, and data summaries. The program interfaces with the HEC-DSS Data Storage System for input and output data storage. Annual or partial-duration series of interior elevation-frequency relationships can be derived (directly using either hypothetical events or continuous simulation) for alternative configurations of interior features such as gravity outlets, pumps, and 3.
