COLLECTION AND PROCESSING OF HISTORICAL FLOOD DATA

 

1.   Purpose and objectives

     Methods for deriving flood peak levels and discharge etc. for floods which occurred before the start of the observational record.

2.   Description

     Systematic analyses are made by field survey of historical floods, and by reference to historical literature and cultural relics. Hydraulic and hydrological methods can then be used to estimate the required features of the floods.

     Historical information.

     Estimate of flood data.

     Not applicable.

     Technical reports.

     These methods are widely used in China.
