VOICE RESPONSE SET

 

1.   Purpose and objectives

     To broadcast meteorological and hydrological data by telephone.

2.   Description

     Accurately detecting and quickly recognising abrupt changes in nature's phenomena is a very important ingredient in guarding against disasters. This voice response set is an instrument that, through a telephone circuit, is able to transmit automatically meteorological and  hydrological data relating to both the water level and amount of rainfall. The system converts digital output from different automatic instruments to voice messages that reply to incoming telephone calls. Alarm levels can be 
set to call out in the event of abnormal water levels or rainfall.

3.   Input

     BCD digital signals from automatic instruments.

4.   Output

     Announcements of meteorological and hydrological data by telephone.

5.   Operational requirements and restrictions

     - Supply regulated electricity
     - The instrument should be installed where there is little mechanical vibration, no high temperature        and low humidity

6.   Form of presentation

     A catalogue and instrument specifications are available.

7.   Operational experience

     About 60 sets were installed in Japan in 1999.
