TECHNICAL STANDARD FOR MEASURING RIVER FLOW AND SEDIMENT BY HYDROMETRIC CABLEWAY |
||
1. Purpose and objectives To standardize
the construction of hydrometric cableways throughout the country
and thus improve the quality of hydrometric data. 2. Description The standard contains seven chapters and five annexes: Chapter 1. General provisions: makes express provisions for many problems with universality, arising in the course of establishment and operation of cableways. Chapter 2. Cableway installation: describes the structural forms, layout principles and driving methods of cableways, signalling, recording and controlling equipment, lightning arrestors, etc. and provides technical information on standardization. Chapter 3. Distance measurement: describes methods and operating procedures for measuring horizontal distances from the initial point to verticals. Chapter 4. Depth measurement: describes two methods of sounding, by sounding weight and by ultrasonic sounder. Chapter 5. Velocity measurement: describes three measuring methods: point-integrated, width-integrated and depth-integrated methods. Chapter 6. Sediment measurement: describes the selection of sampling devices and methods. Chapter 7. Maintenance and inspection of cableways. The five
annexes cover the following: the technical file for a cableway;
tables of correction for angularity; tables of depth,
velocity and sediment measurements by cableway; tables used for
various comparative measurements; and instructions for completing
the technical file for a cableway. 3. Input Not
applicable. 4. Output Data on river
flow and sediment. 5. Operational requirements and restrictions This component
is used for hydrological stations equipped with cableway
installation. Operating personnel should be given regular
training and assessment of technical proficiency. 6. Form of presentation Publication
"Technical Standard for Measuring River Flow and
Sediment Using Hydrometric Cableway" in Chinese version or
in abbreviated English version. 7. Operational experience Hydrometric cableways have been used in China since the 1950s and have progressively become an important feature of the hydrometric network through uninterrupted innovation for more than 20 years. This standard
was promulgated by the Ministry of Water Resources and Electric
Power, China, in January 1985. 8. Originator and technical support Department of
Hydrology, Ministry of Water Resources, P.R.C. 9. Availability From the HOMS
National Reference Centre for China. 10. Conditions on use Cost of reproduction and mailing.
