ACOUSTIC SNOW DEPTH GAUGE |

1. Purpose and objectives To measure
snow depth without contacting the snow surface. 2. Description The Acoustic Snow Depth Gauge utilizes a transmitter-receiver that operates on an ultrasonic wave reflection method. As a result, snow depth can be measured without actually coming into contact with the snow. The snow depth
gauge supplies snow accumulation information for purposes such as
weather reports, traffic control and water management purposes.
Depths up to 5m can be measured. 3. Input Actual snow
depth. 4. Output The snow depth
on a digital data display, as a digital signal (BCD) or an analog
signal (0V-5V DC and 4mV-20mV DC). 5. Operational requirements and restrictions The
instruments must be installed on an open flat site, clear
of obstructions. 6. Form of presentation A catalogue
and instrument specifications are available. 7. Operational experience About 50 sets
were installed in Japan in 1999. 8. Originator and technical support Yokogawa
