TIPPING BUCKET RAINFALL GAUGE

 

1.   Purpose and objectives

     To measure the amount and the intensity of rainfall.

2.   Description

     This Rainfall Gauge is an intermittently measuring tipping bucket rain gauge sensor of 200mm diameter. The tipping bucket tips over every time the rainwater entering through the water receiving port reaches a certain level (0.5mm or 1.0mm) and such a tipping motion is detected by a reed switch 
that sends a contact pulse signal.

     Detecting circuits for contact pulse signal counting with a clock are necessary to measure the amount and the intensity of rainfall.

     Actual rainwater.

4.   Output

     Contact pulse signal.

5.   Operational requirements and restrictions

     For the installation site of the instrument, a location should be selected where there are no surrounding obstacles such as large trees, buildings, and ground surface is flat.

6.   Form of presentation

     A catalogue and instrument specifications are available.

7.   Operational experience

     About 1000 sets were installed in Japan in 1999.
