DAILY RAIN GAUGE

 

1.   Purpose and objectives

     To measure totalized 24-hour rainfall.

2.   Description

     Rainfall water is collected in a 203 mm diameter orifice and lead through a funnel to a receiving can. The amount of water collected each day may be measured with a graduated glass measuring cylinder. The instrument is made of galvanized iron and measures 390 mm high with a diameter of 203 mm.

     Actual rainfall.

4.   Output

     Accumulated depth of daily rainfall.

5.   Operational requirements and restrictions

     The daily raingauge can be manufactured in a mechanical workshop. It must be mounted at a standard height clear of any obstructions that might affect the catch of rainfall.

6.   Form of presentation

     Constructional drawings.


7.   Operational experience

     The daily raingauge has been manufactured in the workshops of the Thai Meteorological Department and successfully used in Thailand.

     From the HOMS National Reference Centre for Thailand.
