PRECISION TURBIDITY RECORDING METER

1.   Purpose and objectives

This instrument measures and prints records of turbidity in rivers,  lakes and reservoirs, and groundwater.

2.   Description

This instrument can be used automatically for periods of over 30 days  with dry cells (Size D), eliminating the necessity of a commercial power  supply. The integrating sphere method is used for measuring. Because this  method measures ratios between scattered and transmitted light, error due  to variation in wave lengths is reduced to a minimum and coloured water can  also be measured. Values equivalent to those obtained in the laboratory can  be obtained.

3.   Input

This instrument operates by dividing turbidity in the water into  scattered and transmitted light, and then outputs turbidity values.

4.   Output

Turbidity values are recorded and printed out digitally with a  printer.

5.   Operational requirements and restrictions

This measuring unit can be installed and operated without any  technical expertise. However, it would be an advantage for the operator to  have a basic knowledge of water quality concepts as well as of electricity.  This instrument can be used in a temperature range of -5C° to +50C°. The  detecting element can be used at depths up to 100 m and can measure a range  from 0 to 500 ppm. It is also equipped with an automatic wet scrubber for  long-term measuring.

6.   Form of presentation

Brochures are available. An instruction manual is supplied to users  upon installation.

7.   Operational experience

Approximately 400 units have been sold in Japan since commencement of  sales in 1988. It has also been exported to China.

8.   Originator and technical support

     CTI Science System Co., Ltd.

9.   Availability

From the HOMS National Reference Centre for Japan.

10.  Conditions on use

Instrument is available for sale. Catalogues are available free of  charge.
