ABSTRACT:

This paper describes the communication and tracking system for moored data in Indian seas. SAC-ISRO (Space Application Center- Indian Space Research Organization) in collaboration with NIOT has designed the data transmission protocol and communication system to meet the requirements of National Institute Of Ocean Technology (NIOT). The system consists of UHF transmitter, INSAT series satellite & ground station. Some of the INSAT series satellites (Presently two operational) are equipped with UHF Transponder specifically designed for data collection platforms (DCP). The frequency band available for this application is 402.650 to 402.850 MHz. The satellite has 1/3 global coverage area. The scheme id designed to transmit 320 bits of data in single transmission.

This paper presents the design, technical features of the data communication system as well tracking system for the data buoy exclusively developed with INSAT, UHF transponder.
